The Blind

Creation began with the Word of God by the Spirit of God (Genesis 1:1-3; John 1:1-14). "And the Word was made 'flesh.'" All God created was made "flesh" in one sense of the word. Flesh, sarx (GK), also has the meaning of "material" and by extension "body" or as the symbol of what's external.

Why do I care?

All life; the body, the soul, the natural physical world, is spiritual. All things are spiritual. In the Hebrew the word dbar means "word" and also "thing." Jesus said, "It is the spirit that quickens; the flesh profits nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit and they are life."

So what?

The recovery of sight to the blind. That's what. All life is spiritual; some can see, some cannot. Some by choice, others by ignorance. The choice is yours.

Being

I cannot fully accept what Fr Rohr proposes in his posting this morning: All Language is Metaphor. He makes some very important points, however, I believe, the power of his points are lost in his proposition that words are metaphors.

I'm not Hebrew linguist, nor scholar, but from my studies I've learned that in the Hebrew the word "dbar" (dvar?) means both "word" and "thing." It is a concept that one is a concrete reality of the other. The word "moon" is as much a concrete reality as the actual rock illuminated in our night sky. The word, concept, and meaning are intrinsic. So much so that if you say "baby moon" people have no concept of what that is unless you contextuallize statement with "hubcaps." So the word does not just point a finger towards the moon, the word "moon" is intrinsic in the concept and "being" of the actual satellite of the earth.

What was Adam's first project on the earth? Gen. 2:19: And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air: and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. Names matter. Names are words, words devise constructs, concepts, and context in the mind and those constructs, concepts, and contexts have meaning and those meanings have "being." There is much more to the phrase "that was the name thereof." A word is a container of "being."

In the spirit, the word/name is as real as the "thing."

We are made in the image of God. Not the way we look, but the way we operate. We co-create.

The Soul (Spirit?) of all things

Today's Readings

Read Isaiah 54. Consider the "barren one" the Gentiles, all of us who are not of the House of Israel by blood. We did not bear the Christ. Sarah did through Mary. We were not given the Law. Isaac was through Moses. These are all in fulfillment of God's Promise to Abraham.

Then read Today's Readings. Consider the "Dear Lady" to be the "Barren One."

Humans are unique to the earth and the plan and process of God. Our charge is to tend and keep the garden. We do this through creation. We speak Words of God to co-create with him by recreating from Him through us into the earth.

The Cosmic Christ

It appears to me most Bible teaching makes Jesus' name equivalent to Christ. So much so that most people think Christ is Jesus' last name. In my thinking, Jesus is the humanization of the Christ. Christ is the Greek word for Messiah which is the Hebrew word which means "anointed." To anoint means to "smear on, rub in to" much like rubbing oil or lotion on dry skin. Jesus is the "Anointed One." While the Jesus and the Anointing cannot be separated, I think it important to understand the distinction between the two.

The Christ has been with God from the beginning. The Spirit was moving on the face of the deep when God spoke, "Let there be light." On the sixth day God said "Let us make man in our image." Who was he talking to? Christ.

I think this is important to understand as I bring up the relationship I see between Adam and Jesus. When we read of the oblique attack of Satan in the Garden of Eden we see his technique clearly. He doesn't confront directly but will use whoever will yield them self to him in order to disrupt his true target. In this I don't think we know enough about the truth of Adam's actions in the Garden. When we look at Gen. 3:6 we don't find much about Adam's part, but it strikes me he acted much like Jesus did as recorded by Luke in Acts 8:32 referring to Isa. 53:7 "He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth."

This also fits a pattern of God. He speaks the end from the beginning and in the beginning he said, "Let us make man in our image" (Gen. 1:26). To be in God's image one must be truly free and be unencumbered in exercising truly free will. As a creation, human beings still have a tie the binds to the creator. The only way to be truly free would be to sever that tie. In order to create a condition in which the tie could be severed there must be a rule, a law, a directive of some sort that would cause a breach. "But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die" (Gen. 2:17).

I submit to you that Adam, quite possibly, sacrificed himself in the plan of God. It is through Adam's sacrifice that we have true freedom to choose. In the plan God had a way back that included teaching us of the knowledge of good and evil. It had to be so because that was the fruit of the tree. God was now obliged to teach human beings the knowledge of good and evil. How?

First he had to find someone to listen to him and follow. Abram was that someone. Abram became Abraham because he believed God and it was accounted to him for righteousness. Through Abraham God was able to covenant with a human being. This covenant, over time, brought forth Moses and through Moses God established the Law. The Law was the guiding principle in expanding the teaching of the knowledge of good and evil.

Through the covenant an the Law came David and through David God established Worship and the Blessing of Israel. Over time the covenant through the Blessing of Israel and Worship came Mary. Through Mary God established His Wisdom and Mary becomes the Model of the Church.

Through Mary's obedience God brings Jesus, the Personification of the Cosmic Christ. Jesus shows us what God is doing; He is the map of the narrow way to God (Luke 13:22-30). Jesus is the model of God's Kingdom and how it works and what it means for us to creation on earth.

Jesus established Righteousness to re-ligio humans to God.

We have free will, now, because of Adam.

We have true choice, now, because of Jesus, the personification of the Cosmic Christ.

Through Jesus we are anointed with His anointing.

We now have true relationship with God.

Jesus, Plato, and me

It is said that Christianity was much more formed by Plato than by Jesus.  I see this born out in the organization of churches and the teaching of their beliefs.  All have a place in God's Kingdom, I believe. Jesus tells us in John 14, "Don't let your hearts be troubled. Have faith in God; have faith also in me.  In my Father's house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?"

God manifests in names and places at appointed times.

I pray and study to move past my education.  I've come to know that I am a spirit, created by God, and on the earth in a body whose design is by God, created in Adam, and I'm given a soul, also created by God in the creation, by which I choose.

My soul consists of my mind, my will, and my emotion; the tools by which I make decisions and put forth effort.

Jesus says "... the son of man has power on earth to ..." God gave Adam power and dominion on earth. Adam surrendered to the adversary, Lucifer.  God used Noah, then Abram, to restore His influence.

Noah heard, listened, and followed God and God modeled the overflowing Holy Spirit, the Rivers of Living Water through his obedience delivering the son of man from complete destruction.

Through Abram, God brought the knowledge of good and evil; required of Him by the dominion He gave to Adam.

Through Jesus He fulfilled the teaching of the law and the knowledge of good and evil.  Jesus models for us the way a man on earth should act and the power he/we should have and the way we should use it. Jesus' prayer in John 17 tells us we are in Him and He is in the Father, therefore we are in the Father and the Father in us through the Holy Spirit. We are part of the Trinity, the Godhead. We should control our space.  It is within our responsibility.  It is within our power if we will only believe, ask, seek, and knock.  It is our responsibility to grow in knowledge and power.

We must learn to be trainable.

Reality

From God we came, to God we return. Glory be to God.

God created the earth for man, as a proving ground. We begin as spirit, are born into the earth, grow, learn, decide, return. The pattern is throughout the Bible, but we miss it because we focus on learning about the Bible rather than learning the Bible. We approach it academically rather than experientially. 

We study because we learn. We speak because that is how we learn. God designed this experience for us, to prove us, who we will follow. As for me and my house, we will follow the LORD.
